Moving In

Everything you need to know about moving into your new home.

September 2023 arrivals

Our goal is to make your transition into your new home as smooth and stress-free as possible. Our series of welcome booklets, specific to each residence, provide all of the key information you need to help you settle in, so make sure to give yours a read on or before your arrival.

Moving-in day is always an exciting time and in September thousands of new students join us. To allow for a smooth and safe arrival, we will ask most students moving into University-owned accommodation to book an arrival slot. You will do this as part of your mandatory accommodation induction which becomes available 14 days before your contract start date. Slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis; so please keep an eye out for our email inviting you to complete your induction.

When can I arrive?

The majority of our students will arrive between Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 September. Each residence will welcome students on the dates detailed in the table below. International students can arrive from Monday 11 September

Your arrival

We've pulled together some important information for your arrival. Please make sure you:

Remember to bring your 'Key Collection Pass'. Once you have booked your arrival slot and completed your induction, you will get a 'Key Collection Pass'. Save this to your mobile device, or print a copy and bring it with you. You'll need this to collect your keys.

Know what to do when you arrive by car. Please aim to arrive within your chosen arrival slot. We will direct you to an available drop-off point where you will unload your car straight away. A driver must remain with your vehicle at all times as we may need you to move it. After unloading, head to an alternative parking space in Newcastle. We'll provide you with a map detailing car parks nearby. Once you've parked off-site, you can return on foot to unpack and get settled in. Please note, vans, trailers or additional cars are not permitted due to limited space.

Check your vehicle. Newcastle has recently introduced a ‘Clean Air Zone' meaning certain vehicles may be charged a daily fee to enter parts of the city, check if your car is affected.

Organise your food shop (outside of arrivals period). Our accommodation does not have space to accommodate a large number of vehicles. Therefore, to allow all students the opportunity to arrive promptly, couriers and supermarket deliveries are restricted during our arrivals period. We are also unable to allow cars to return to the accommodation after unloading. Organise to bring some supplies with you, or book a supermarket delivery to arrive after 5pm.

Book your spot. If you're bringing a car or bike to university with you make sure you've booked a parking permit or bike storage in advance. You can do this via Parking and Bicycle Storage.

Out of hours arrival

If you arrive when our reception is closed, please contact our Estate Security Service on +44 (0) 191 208 6817 or via the help points located at the building entrance. Our Security Team will then meet you to issue you with your keys.
