Insurance

A basic level of contents insurance is provided for you when you live in University-owned or managed partner accommodation. Find out more about what's included and how to make a claim.

University-owned accommodation

As a student living in Newcastle University-owned accommodation, you are insured by Cover4Students, a trading style of UK & Ireland Insurance Services Ltd. The insurance is included in the price of your accommodation, so there is no extra charge unless you choose to top-up your policy to cover extra items such as bicycles. The coverage guarantees the protection of your valuables while they are in your accommodation. Once you move out, your belongings will no longer be insured.

What’s included?

Your cover will protect you against theft, fire, lightning, explosion, and vandalism, as well as damage caused by burst pipes, storms, or floods. For people living alone, personal possessions are covered up to a limit of £10,000 per claim. Your coverage is increased to £12, 000 if you live with a partner or family.

Please keep in mind that some things, such as bicycles or high-value products, may require additional coverage. This is not included under the basic cover, and separate arrangements must be made to insure them. Visit the Cover4Insurance website for a better understanding of what is and is not covered and what extras you can add for an additional cost.
