The Make it Happen Fund was used to support a collaborative art project and public facing exhibition.

Tell us about your project

The ‘Horoscope Hotel’ project was a collaboration of works by 12 Fine Art degree students, with mentoring from artist Amy Lord. We each created a door in response to our star signs to be situated in the Enchanted City winter festival in December 2026.

The audience were invited to press the doorbell on each door to hear the corresponding horoscope by Lina Della Luna for that day. Our artworks were displayed alongside the work of professional artists and seen by 9204 total attendees. This gave us a great opportunity to share our work as emerging artists and to gain experience in the professional art space.

Participants: Kiera Ryan, Frankie Ross, Georgie Murphy, Mia Griffiths, Sophia Wu, Florian Towns, Liberty Peters-Murphy, Emily Ford, Josse Fincham (Newcastle University). Eylul Zilan Kuzu, Abbey Tomlinson, Lucie Simpson (Northumbria University).

How did you use the funding?

The Make It Happen Fund was used to expand what materials we could use, funding paint, metal, wood, plaster, paper and more, as well as weatherproofing so that our work could withstand being exhibited outdoors. Importantly, our ideas were not limited by the costs, which became evident in the outcomes and response to the work.

What impact did the funding have?

The funding allowed us to present our best work in a public facing exhibition and realise the potential for this project, creating an atmospheric, immersive and impactful presentation.
