Natalie's story

A serial entrepreneur and business founder since 2014.

Introducing Natalie

Natalie graduated from our Business Management BA in 2014. She received a START UP Foundership for her first business, Oh My Glow. A detoxing beauty supplement made from 10 superfoods.

In 2018, Natalie pivoted to become co-founder and CEO of Boss Babe. An online community to help female entrepreneurs connect, build and grow.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I’ve always been very entrepreneurial and knew for years that I’d create something. I had that ‘spark’ as a result of healing my own health issues through nutrition. I had severe stomach troubles. I noticed changes in my health by changing my diet and using specific ingredients. It was a real game-changer for me, so I decided to create Oh My Glow.

What were some of your achievements and challenges?

In the first 7 months [of Oh My Glow], we shipped to around 45 countries and retailed with the world's largest retailer. We gained over 60,000 followers on social media, and we were featured in 6 printed press articles. We made our first sale within minutes and never went a day without a sale. A big challenge included buying 50% of the business back from my business partner. I dealt with this through seeking advice and mentorship as well as being patient.

What advice would you give for starting a business?

Just don't be scared to go for it! If you spend too long putting it off and procrastinating, it may never happen. Also, nothing beats consistency and focus on the right things. If you get both of those things down, your success is inevitable. The thing I enjoy most about running my own business is the freedom that it gives me, but having a support network is so important... I've been able to create an incredible circle of mentors, peers, and friends.

"START UP has always been supportive and enthusiastic, allowing me to get excited about my ideas whilst providing the resources I need to move forward including funding and mentorship".
