A Grand Welcome To The NUMed Family

Orientation Day marks our grand welcome for the freshies joining our Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) family. Held on the 1st of October 2022, this year’s Orientation Weekend was unique as we opened it up to our Year 2 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Biomedical Sciences (BMS) students, who missed their physical Orientation Weekend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event's goal was to bring students together, build networks, and make lasting memories.

Prof. Chris Baldwin, NUMed’s CEO and Provost; Dr.  Paul Hubbard, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs; and Dr. Pamela Knight, Senior Lecturer; gave insightful opening remarks to the students before the start of the Orientation Weekend. This was then followed by an ice-breaking session, station games, and performances. The event was a success, earning many positive comments from both new and returning students.

Spirit Week is a brand-new event created by our Student Association (SA) Welfare team for NUMed students and staff to strengthen the bond between students and faculty on campus. The event took place from the 3rd to the 7th of October, with each day having a different dress code.

Students and staff were asked to dress up according to various themes like 'Vacation Mood,' 'Anything But a Backpack + Crazy Socks Day,' 'Dramarama,' 'Cultural Appreciation Day,' and 'Dyjamas Day.' Students and staff who dressed up were photographed on campus by our SA members, and others were given the opportunity to tag our SA on social media.

Club Fest is an annual event in which all of NUMed’s clubs and societies are introduced to students. This time, the event was held in a hybrid format, with both physical and virtual Club Fests. The Physical Club Fest was held on the campus on the 11th of October, with booths set up around campus for students to visit and communicate with club and society committee members. The Virtual Club Fest, on the other hand, was held from the 11th to the 14th of October for the convenience of students who were unable to attend Club Fest physically as well as those who needed more time to decide on the clubs and societies.

These events instilled a sense of oneness among all of us at NUMed, fostering strong and positive relationships within the NUMed family.
