Applying for Accommodation

This website is currently being updated. Pages or sections that are still awaiting updates will be clearly marked with a notice at the top of the page.

Applying for accommodation is straightforward

Before applying, it's important to research our accommodation. Use the handy filter options to find the accommodation most suited to you.

Look into different room types, considering factors like location, facilities, and cost. Make sure the accommodation is within your budget and that you know the difference between the types of accommodation. Think about whether you'd prefer a larger or smaller community, and whether you want mixed or single gender accommodation.

If you need a specific room type or location due to a medical need, please see our Accessibility and Individual Requirements for further guidance.

We offer an Accommodation Guarantee for extra peace of mind. Make sure that you are familiar with the eligibility criteria and the deadline dates. Remember, we guarantee eligible students a room, not necessarily one you have chosen.

Finally, familiarise yourself with the different application routes. These differ depending on your course type, the duration of your stay, if you're coming with your family, or if you need room to accommodate a disability or health need.

To apply for accommodation, you must hold a firm offer to study with Newcastle University.

Frequently Asked Questions

I deferred my studies, do I have to apply for accommodation again?

Yes, you do need to apply for accommodation again. You can log in with the same 9-digit application number from the first time you applied. Make sure you select your new year of entry when making your accommodation application.

I can't register for an account on the accommodation portal. Why is that?

There might be a simple fix if you are having trouble creating a log-in. Here are a few things to check:

  • you are entering your date of birth in the correct format (dd/mm/yyyy)
  • you are omitting the hyphens in your UCAS number or university reference number
  • you are adding your surname as it appears on your University application
  • you have waited 48 hours after receiving your academic offer. It may take time for your records to update in our system
  • you don't already have an account

If the problem continues, please contact us so we can investigate this for you.

I've registered an account but the portal tells me that I am unable to apply. Why is that?

If you are unable to make an application, please check that:

  • you are applying for accommodation in the correct academic year
  • you have made Newcastle your firm choice university. It may take up to 48 hours after doing this for the information to update into our accommodation system

If, after waiting 48 hours, you still cannot apply, please contact us to investigate.

What support do you offer for care experienced or estranged students?

We understand that estranged applicants or those that have been in care, may have different accommodation needs. As part of our commitment to support you, we can offer you a specialist allocation. This includes a continuous accommodation contract, or space to store your things over the summer. If you'd like to discuss your requirements, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
