Moving in is an exciting time for students and their families. We look forward to meeting you in September.
To get yourself ready for a smooth and safe arrival, please follow these steps:
- check your email regularly - in the weeks before arrival we’ll send you updates, including how to complete your induction, book your arrival slot, and find handy tips for the big day
- review the “before you arrive” steps below - make sure you’re fully prepared ahead of time
- read the arrival details for your accommodation - select your residence from the list below to see specific instructions
Don’t forget to share this information with anyone accompanying you so they know where to park and what to expect on arrival.
Before you arrive
Before moving in, you’ll need to complete the following task:
Book your arrival slot:
- you’ll need to book an arrival slot to let us know when you’ll be arriving
- this is completed as part of your online induction
- we’ll email you instructions on how to complete your induction 14 days before your contract start date
- arrival slots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete your induction as soon as possible to secure your preferred time

When you arrive:
- if you are arriving by car, the university grounds from St Thomas st and drive until you see the car park on your right hand side- you will want to park in the lower car park if possible, closest to the INTO building/ Bernicia Halls
- please leave your luggage in the car until you have collected your keys
- walk down the steps/ramp to the main INTO building
- have your photographic ID and accommodation agreement ready to show us
- we'll give you your key pack and provide directions to your accommodation building
Arriving outside of the main arrival dates/times?
- if the main INTO building is open, (Monday-Friday 08:30-5pm) Please come to reception and let our staff know that you are checking in to Bernicia Halls
- if the main building is not open, contact our 24 hour maintenance and security team on +447532120169 or via the help point located next to the reception entrance
- our Security team will then meet you at the main INTO building to check you in and give you your keys.
Arriving after 14 September?
If you arrive after 14 September and outside of the usual reception opening hours (Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 17.00), please contact maintenance and security team using the above details.
Bowsden Court

- once parked, walk to the marquee on Windsor Terrace to collect your keys
- have your photographic ID and key collection pass ready to show us
- we'll give you your key pack and direct you to your accommodation building
- please unload your car straight away - a driver must remain with the vehicle in case it needs to be moved
- after unloading, you'll need to move your car to a nearby parking location (we’ll suggest options on the day, or you can plan in advance using the information here)
- once parked, return to your accommodation to start unpacking and settling in at your own pace

- if you're arriving by car, please note that there is no parking onsite
- use one of the 10,000 public park spaces in the city
- once parked walk to the Barras Building
- use the buzzer outside the building entrance to let the team know you've arrived
- have your photographic ID and key collection pass ready to show

If you're arriving to University-owned accommodation outside of our staffed arrival hours, that's no problem.

What should I bring when moving into Newcastle University accommodation?
The items you will need to bring when moving into your room will differ depending on which accommodation you have been assigned. Here is a general list of items that you may need:
- essential documents - ID, passport, bank card,
- your National Insurance number
- clothes
- necessary medicine, plasters, etc.
- hygiene products (toothbrush, hairbrush, soap)
- towels
- bedding (pillow, duvet, sheet)
- tea towels
- laundry basket
- cutlery, pots and pans
- coat hangers
- laptop
- chargers
- alarm clock
- items to personalise - cushions, bed throw, battery-operated fairy lights, photo frames

What shouldn’t I bring when moving into Newcastle University accommodation?
There are also a few general items you should not bring with you when moving into your accommodation. Here are a few listed:
- a pet (unless a service dog)
- loud instruments
- a BBQ
- candles
- kettles, toasters, microwaves
- portable heater
- mains-powered fairy lights
- mini fridge (if you need a mini fridge for medical reasons, please get in touch with us)
- furniture
I am an international student, will I receive an arrival pack?
Bedding and soft furnishings are not included in your room. All our accommodation is self-catered, and you will have access to an equipped kitchen. You will need to bring your own crockery, cutlery, utensils and pots and pans. You can pre-order bedding and kitchen essentials from UniKitOut. Simply select the items you need and UniKitOut will deliver these straight to us before your arrival. Alternatively, we are a city centre university, with many shops nearby that you would be able to purchase these items from.
