Support

ResLife Support is here to help you settle into University accommodation, build a sense of community, and make the most of your University experience. Whatever you need, we’re here to support you throughout your time living with us.

Reside and Thrive

Reside and Thrive is a ResLife programme which provides information and support to help students who:

  • are disabled or neurodivergent
  • have learning difficulties or mental health challenges
  • have other long-term conditions to successfully transition to living independently

Reside and Thrive allows us to be proactive in supporting you to make the transition to independent living.  You'll have access to specific and relevant information and signposting at key points in the year, providing a listening ear and a point of contact for questions and ad hoc support when you need it. Through Reside and Thrive you can also access higher levels of support depending on your personal needs. This could be:

  • more individual communication from one of your ResLife Support Coordinators
  • regular face-to-face meetings with one of your ResLife Support Coordinators
  • support creating an action plan to live independently and more

We believe it's important to empower you to live independently by creating a space where you have control over your University experience and can access the right level of support when you want it.

Find a Flatmate

Moving into your second year is an exciting step, and finding the right people to share a home with can make all the difference.

ResLife supports first-year students through this process with our Find a Flatmate initiative.

We work closely with the Students’ Union to offer practical advice, events, and top tips for securing the right home for you.

Living Together in Accommodation

Sharing a flat can be a positive part of the student experience, but it is also normal for disagreements to happen from time to time. Our Living Together guidance gives practical advice on common flatmate issues such as cleaning, noise, and communication. It helps you:

  • think through the issue
  • approach conversations constructively
  • understand when our team can offer further support

Merry Mates and social groups

Staying in university accommodation over the Christmas and New Year break can feel isolating — but it doesn’t have to be.

Merry Mates is a friendly initiative for students who remain on campus during the shutdown period.

Complete the form to become part of our Merry Mates WhatsApp group. This group is only for students living in Newcastle University accommodation.

ResLife ReHome

ResLife ReHome is a University-wide sustainability initiative designed to support both students who are moving out and those who are just arriving. At the end of the academic year, outgoing students can donate good-quality items they no longer need, helping to reduce waste and prevent perfectly usable belongings from going to landfill.

These donated items are then cleaned, sorted and made available free of charge to new students during Welcome Week. This is especially helpful for international students who may arrive with limited luggage, as well as anyone looking to save money and settle in more comfortably.

Whether you’re leaving or just beginning your journey at Newcastle, taking part in ResLife ReHome means you’re helping other students, protecting the environment and contributing to a culture of sharing and kindness across our accommodation villages.
