Four different accommodation types are on offer here - standard rooms (postgraduate), en-suite rooms (postgraduate), two-bedroom flats (for couples and families), and three-bedroom flats (for families). It's the ideal spot for postgraduates, couples and families looking for a welcoming home-from-home on a budget.
Location
Bowsden Court is located only two miles from campus and is easily accessible via public transport links. South Gosforth Metro Station is a short walk away, with Metro trains every five minutes (daytime only) into Newcastle city centre. The surrounding areas of Gosforth and Jesmond are student hotspots, popular for the many shops, bars and restaurants on offer. You’ll be close to green space too, with beautiful Jesmond Dene and its famous waterfall only one stop away on the metro.

Bowsden Court provides a range of different room options based on your needs. There are standard rooms, rooms for couples, and family flats available. Amenities include an on-site laundrette, bike storage, and free car parking (subject to availability).
The accommodation at Bowsden Court is spread over two to four floors and accessible by stairs only. Your safety is our top priority – Estates Security Officers patrol our accommodation for your peace of mind.
Standard rooms are available in flats of two. You will share a bathroom, lounge and kitchen. Each bedroom combines a sleep/study space, including a four-foot bed (small double), desk with chair and small set of drawers, wardrobe, and shelving. For September 2023/24 applicants, there will be 36 rooms of this type available.
En-suite rooms are available in flats of five to six and spread across three floors. Each bedroom combines a sleep/study space, including a four-foot bed (small double), desk with chair and small set of drawers, wardrobe, shelving and en-suite shower room. For September 2023/24 applicants, there will be 70 rooms of this type available.
Refurbished en-suite rooms are available in flats of six in Building A. Their newly refurbished kitchens, lounges and bedrooms have been finished to a high standard. Each bedroom combines a sleep/study space, including a four-foot bed (small double), desk with chair and small set of drawers, wardrobe, shelving and en-suite shower room. For September 2023/24 applicants, there will be 66 rooms of this type available.
Please note that you are unable to specify between a refurbished and un-refurbished room on your application.
Two-bedroom flats are self-contained flats for families and couples that come fully furnished. The main bedroom has a double bed, and the second bedroom has two 2x2.6ft (single) beds. There is one bathroom per flat and a washing machine in the kitchen. In the lounge there is a telephone point and Sky TV connection (subject to licence and subscription). For September 2023/24 applicants, there will be 18 two-bedroom family flats available.
Three-bedroom flats are for families who will benefit from a three-bedroom self-contained flat. The main bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has two 2x2.6ft (single) beds, and the third bedroom has one 2x2.6ft (single) bed. There is one bathroom per flat and a washing machine in the kitchen to help with daily family life. In the lounge there is a telephone point and Sky TV connection (subject to licence and subscription). For September 2023/24 applicants, there will be 14 three-bedroom family flats available.

Accommodation fees
Postgraduate students in a single-study bedroom
The contract is a fixed term period of 49 weeks and covers the duration of the academic year. Rents are charged per night. If your contract differs to the fixed term period (i.e. earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges.
University accommodation fees for postgraduate rooms include heating, electricity and water charges, free personal possessions insurance via Cover 4 Insurance, and WiFi.

Public transport information
By Metro
South Gosforth Metro station is a short walk away on Station Road.
There are Metro trains every five minutes during the day into Newcastle city centre, taking between 10 and 15 minutes to get there. For metro times refer to the Nexus website.
By Bus
The area is well served by bus services from Station Road to the city centre.
By Train
From Newcastle Central Station you can take the Metro directly to South Gosforth station.
Taxis are also available from the Central Station.
By Air
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles northwest of Newcastle University.
You can also travel by Metro to South Gosforth station which will take about 15 minutes.
