Sport & Fitness Opportunities

Newcastle University Sport & Fitness Centre welcomes all staff to use the facilities, we have a wide range of opportunities to fit in and around your work day helping you stay on target to meet your health and fitness goals.

If fitness activity is your thing then check out our world class open plan gym, fitted with the latest equipment, from cardio, functional rig, lifting platforms, sled track and dedicated strength training zones. You may also like our the fantastic range of exercises classes on offer from mind and body, to fast paced spin and body pump we guarantee there's something for you.

We also offer a range of sporting options from clubs such as badminton and running, to the option to book your own courts and play a variety of sports like squash, 5-a-side and basketball.

A range of memberships is on offer to meet your needs, from pay as you play from as little as £4 to monthly direct debits and annual payments. For more info check out our membership page.

Gym Access

Our state of the art gym provides a fantastic training environment with a combination of equipment, functional training space, design, technology and accessories to inspire your workout. The open plan gym is fitted with the latest high performance equipment, from cardio, functional rig, lifting platforms, sled track and dedicated strength training zones. Our new training environment has a fantastic combination of equipment, functional training space, design, technology and accessories to inspire you towards your health and fitness goals.

FAQs

What membership do I need?

To access the gym you will need a Fitness or Sport & Fitness Membership. These are payable via monthly direct debit or as an annual payment.

Do you offer personal trainer sessions?

Yes. Check out our personal trainer page.

When is the gym busy?

Typically the gym is at its busiest between 4pm - 8pm. Use our gym busy tool via the NCL Sport App to check out live information on how busy the gym is.

Exercise Classes

Taking place in one of 4 studios at Newcastle University Sport & Fitness Centre, our classes aim to work every major muscle group in your body, whatever your fitness level, creating lasting change you’ll start to notice after just a few weeks. Our fantastic instructors are on hand to motivate, challenge and guide you throughout the workout so don't be nervous – you'll do great.

Our group fitness studios are fitted with cutting-edge AV technology and innovative accessories including Les Mills Smart Tech equipment.

Court Bookings

From badminton, squash, basketball, 5-a-side football and much more we have courts available to book at a time which suits you best.

All equipment is provided and our staff take care of all the set up requirements.

Badminton Club

Taking place every Tuesday 12-1pm in Sports Hall 1 our staff only badminton club is aimed at all abilities with equipment provided. Whether you play regularly or just want to play for fun this club can be for you.

You will need a Sport membership or you can pay as you play for £4 per week.

Claremont Runners

Established in 1981, Claremont Road Runners running club is based in Newcastle City Centre at the Sports & Fitness Centre on the Newcastle University campus, just off Claremont Road.

We are a friendly club with the emphasis on having fun while we run, and welcome runners of all abilities. Our members range in age from 18 to 85 years of age. 

We meet on Monday and Wednesday nights with training sessions starting at 6.00pm, so we are the ideal choice for runners working in or near central Newcastle
