Our athlete-centred packages provide multi-disciplinary support to optimise performance.

What we do

At the Performance Laboratory at Newcastle University, we can support you to optimise your performance. Our experts in exercise and environmental physiology, nutrition, and biomechanics use state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to deliver sports performance testing and analysis to meet the needs of elite athletes and active people.

Our testing will allow you to:

  • Assess and monitor fitness, inform training, and predict performance capacity.
  • Optimise training for injury prevention, better technique, and improved performance.
  • Assess and monitor muscle function, muscle imbalance, and support rehabilitation and return-to-play.
  • Prepare for competition and endurance challenges in the most extreme environmental conditions.
  • Assess and monitor body composition, helping to achieve an optimal physique for your sport.

Our Packages

Our range of tests are packaged to you suit you, the athlete. Our athlete-centres packages provide multi-disciplinary support to optimise performance. Each package includes expert interpretation of your data and a written report.

Fundamental Performance Assessments - £150
  • Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) test (£50 for VO2max test only)

  • Treadmill kinematic and gait analysis
  • Bike kinematic analysis

Team Sport Athlete Package - £216

Three assessments from:

Skill and Striking Athlete Package (golf, tennis, cricket etc) - £198

 Three assessments from:

  • Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) test

Environmental Training and Acclimatisation Package - £540
  • 3 x 1-hour monitored training session in the environmental chamber

Our Facilities

Our range of tests are packaged to you suit you, the athlete. Our athlete-centres packages provide multi-disciplinary support to optimise performance.

  • State-of-the-art hypoxia and heat chamber capable of replicating extreme environmental conditions such as altitude, extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • Performance treadmill and cycle ergometer.
  • High-specification metabolic cart and gas analysis system.
  • 34-camera, 3D motion capture system.
  • 40-metre gait analysis track with embedded force plates.
  • Isokinetic dynamometer and 14-unit EMG system for measuring muscle strength and activation.
