Overview

Grand Hotel is available for our postgraduate students. Situated above the University bookshop on campus, it's ideally located for all that the city centre can offer.

Our facilities include:

* If you bring your own TV or watch using a personal electronic device, you will need to purchase your own licence.

Lifestyle

Grand Hotel offers self-catered en-suite accommodation, right on campus for postgraduate students. On each floor there are two or three central kitchen/lounges, where you can eat and meet with your friends. There's also a separate TV lounge. 

As the Grand Hotel is located right on campus, there is no car parking or bike storage available.

Access and safety

Rooms are spread across three floors. There is an entry phone system. We take the safety of our students very seriously and Estates Security Officers patrol our accommodation to ensure your peace of mind.

A Residences Manager is responsible for Residential Services as well as welfare and discipline and a Customer Services Manager is responsible for Reception Services.

Your contract

Grand Hotel is University-owned accommodation.

2021-2022 residents

The contract is a fixed term period of 50 weeks and covers the duration of the academic year. Rents are charged per day, so if your contract differs to the standard dates above (i.e. earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges at the relevant daily rate.

All utility bills are included, WiFi is free and we also provide Personal Possessions Insurance.

Reception opening times

From Monday 20 September Reception will be operating the following hours:

Reception doors are open Monday to Friday, 08.30 – 17.45 and the Customer Services team can also be contacted by telephone and email from 08.00 – 18.00.

Please note that due to the ongoing Covid 19 situation, our normal reception opening hours are subject to change.  Any changes from the hours stated here will be communicated to our residents and signage showing the new opening hours will be displayed by the reception entrance.

Arrival Procedures The Grand Hotel

Please make your way in your chosen time slot to:

Please use the buzzer outside the entrance to let the Estate Security Team know you have arrived. A member of the Estate Security Team will greet you and ask to see your photographic ID and key release form. Please follow the instructions provided by the team member who will provide your key pack and provide information to help you find your room. You can then make your way to your accommodation at the address below:

Please note there is no parking onsite. There are nearly 10,000 spaces in public car parks across the city centre. The 'How Busy Is Toon' website provides live parking space information for a number of public car parks.

Once you have parked, proceed on foot to the Ground Floor of the Barras Building.

The Customer Services team will be available to help with queries from 0800 - 1730 on Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September.

Reception will revert to normal opening hours of 0800 – 1800 Monday to Friday (doors open 0830 – 1745) from Monday 20 September.

Out of hours key collection 

If you expect to arrive outside of opening hours and need to collect your key on arrival, you'll need to contact our Estates Security Office on +44 (0) 191 208 6817. Security Officers will arrange to meet and give you your key and you will be asked to show a copy of your Accommodation Acceptance with details of your room allocation.
