Clean Sport

We’re keeping sport at Newcastle clean. You can enjoy your success knowing you’ve competed in a fair and honest way.

Clean Sport Commitment Statement

All sporting participants have the right to compete in Clean Sport.

Newcastle University adopts the UK Anti-Doping and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) position. Cheating, including doping, in sport is fundamentally contrary to the spirit of sport. It undermines the otherwise positive impact of sport on society.

To this end, Newcastle University commits to support Clean Sport in the UK in the following ways:

  • we support the mission of UK Anti-Doping and WADA in achieving Clean Sport
  • we expect all athletes to train and compete in line with the spirit of sport, including anti-doping rules
  • all coaches and athlete support personnel will perform their role in line with the spirit of sport, including anti-doping rules
  • we commit to supporting the prevention of doping behaviour in the UK with other sporting bodies
  • employed and associated staff will not condone, assist or support the use of prohibited substances and methods (except Therapeutic Use Exemption) in their work
  • we will act on breaches of this, or any rules and policies referred to in our own code of practice and conduct
  • employed and associated staff will contact UK Anti-Doping should they become aware of an athlete or NGB member using or considering using a prohibited substance or prohibited method
  • we will uphold any sanctions placed upon an athlete by UK Anti-Doping or other associated body in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code

Director's Statement

“Newcastle University will put into place, support and promote the Clean Sport policies of UK Anti-Doping and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). We’re committed to educating our athletes, coaches and athlete support staff. We instill in them the values, attitudes and beliefs of Clean Sport, so that we can keep all our sport clean.

“Newcastle University will protect the ethos, integrity and spirit of sport, in part, through our Clean Sport policy. We will inspire, support and enable student athletes to be the very best they can be. They will celebrate this success in the knowledge that it was achieved honestly and fairly.”
