Student Car Parking Policy
University Owned Accommodation
Purpose statement
Accommodation Services is committed to supporting the University’s Sustainable Travel Plan by advocating sustainable transport options for students. We maintain the offer of a limited number of car parking spaces at two locations. This policy is a shared service initiative with Estates & Facilities.
Applicability and scope
Our parking policy covers the arrangements and regulations concerning the parking of motor vehicles and bicycles in the private grounds of the University’s accommodation. We are using the term motor vehicle to cover any mechanically or electronically propelled vehicle, intended or adapted for use on roads and includes a motorcycle.
Availability of parking
We have a finite number of parking spaces for students, located at Bowsden Court and Castle Leazes. Parking permits can be booked for a full academic year or termly and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Permits are issued for a designated resident parking bay at a specified residence only and are not valid for parking at any other site or on campus. The permit is only to be used by the permit holder.
There is no provision for short-term parking for students during the academic year. Students moving into a residence part way through the year should contact reception to check availability and charges.
For more information and to book a permit visit the car-parking page on our website.
Parking management
The University operates a Parking Management System to manage the parking estate. If a vehicle is left in a way that contravenes these conditions, such as being outside of a marked or signed bay, in an area with 'No Parking at Any Time' signage or in an area reserved for another permit type holder, the vehicle is subject to enforcement action by the Estate Security Service and our appointed parking enforcement provider.
Visitor parking
Visitor parking space is limited to residences with ‘Pay & display’ machines. Find out where you can park here.
Disabled students and students with temporary mobility impairments
Newcastle University is committed to ensuring that disabled students are able to access the university campus and residences. As we are a city-based campus where spaces are sought after, we encourage you to enquire about availability without delay. Applications are assessed on a case by case basis.
Blue Badge holders
Permits for Blue Badge holders are issued free of charge. Please contact accommodation reception directly for more information.
Contact details can be found here.
Once you have your permit you can park in a designated resident accessible parking space at your residence, provided your badge is visible.
Students with temporary mobility impairments
Please contact the Customer Services Team at your accommodation reception. We will assess all requests on an individual basis.
