Overview

Just a 15 minute walk from the buzz of the city centre, campus, shops, and nightlife, Marris House is beside the beautifully leafy Leazes Park and the University Sports Centre. By September 2019 the site will have just finished going through a complete refurbishment, complete with a swanky new social space and study zone.

Lifestyle

Marris House will re-open in September 2019 following a £4 million refurbishment to provide bright, cosy and modern accommodation in a prime location next to the new sports facilities. It’s also located by the Medical School, within a short walk to campus and about 15 minutes’ walk away from everything the city centre has to offer.

There are 32 flats, each accommodating six bedrooms with a communal kitchen living area. A social and study space is available for all students to enjoy.

The accommodation has a contemporary feel with wood effect flooring throughout and is furnished in neutral tones with shades of grey and natural wood to create a warm, relaxing feel. Bedrooms have neutral white walls, and you can accessorise your room to your liking. Your room comes equipped with comfy, on-trend desk and chair, a 4-foot bed, plenty of storage as well as sockets with USB points, so that you can charge all of your devices as needed. You will also have your own vanity unit with a sink and modern LED mirror, a towel rail and storage for all of your toiletries. You will be sharing a shower and toilet with 2 other students, meaning no long queues!

Your kitchen communal area is bright and modern, with a grey, mustard and white colour scheme. A 43” TV, comfy sofa for lounging, poseur table and high stools with copper pendant lighting make a great place to chill out and socialise. The kitchen provides plenty of storage and cooking facilities with two fridge freezers and a washer dryer – which means no trips to the laundrette!

If you decide to venture out of your flat, you will be able to make the most of the social and study space which is located on the ground floor of one block. It offers a variety of ways to hang out, including a quiet study space with six individual desks, a group study area with wing-backed sofas, a breakout area for play or revision, and a dedicated snug room where you can forget all about work and relax with your pals in a more luxurious space.

Just to let you know, building work will be ongoing throughout the academic year on a site next to Marris House, which may cause some noise and disturbance - keep this in mind if you're thinking of applying to stay here.

Access and Safety

Marris House is spread over two to four floors accessible by stairs (unfortunately no lift!); an entry phone system is also in operation. We're very serious about the safety of our students, and Estates Security Officers patrol our accommodation to ensure your peace of mind.

Your Residences Manager is responsible for Residential Services as well as welfare and discipline, and a Customer Services Manager is responsible for your local reception.

Your contract

Marris House is University-owned accommodation.

The contract is a fixed term period of 40 weeks (22 September 2019 to 28 June 2020) and covers the duration of the academic year. Rents are charged per day, so if your contract differs to the standard dates above (ie earlier arrival), you will incur additional accommodation charges at the relevant daily rate.

All utility bills are included, WiFi is free and we also provide Personal Possessions Insurance

Accessible Rooms

Our accommodation is accessible to all and we support students who have particular needs or disabilities

We have two flats specifically adapted for students with impaired hearing.  

There is an induction loop in the communal lounge linked to the TV. One of the study-bedroom's in each flat is fitted with vibrating pillow and strobe warning light. This will notify you if the fire alarm system is activated within your flat or block.
