Opportunities on Campus

There's a wide range of paid work opportunities available on campus each year.

These include:

  • Jobs On Campus - work across campus in a variety of casual temporary roles
  • NCL Internships - we offer flexible, paid term-time and summer internships on campus and with local employers.  Roles are advertised throughout the year on MyCareer.
  • various roles in the Careers Service
  • student ambassadors - inspire young people while representing and promoting Newcastle University. The application deadline is usually early October each year. For more information, contact studentambassadors@ncl.ac.uk.
  • Street Scientists - inform and inspire the public about science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). You’ll perform live science demonstrations and answer questions about STEM in the city centre and at various festivals and events. This opportunity is open to Newcastle University undergraduate and postgraduate students with a passion for STEM. Positions are usually advertised from around September and close in early October each year. 
  • FutureMe Mentors - take part in face-to-face mentoring to help inspire Year 10-11 students. The position is open to current Newcastle University students – applications usually open in September and close in early October each year.   • exam invigilators - opportunities for postgraduate research students to assist with the smooth running of University exams. Applications usually open in September and close mid-October. Please contact the Exams Office if you have any queries about this role.
  • Newcastle University Sport offers a wide range of roles on campus, from programme delivery with roles such as Intramural Sport Leaders or Strength & Conditioning Interns, to supporting roles such as First Aiders and Marketing Interns. 
  • lab assistants - the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences offers development opportunities, including paid part-time lab assistant posts within research laboratories to stage 2 students. Other lab-based work experience can be found by checking your School noticeboard and contacting your department. 
  • the Library offers a number of Robinson bequest bursaries each year, aimed at Masters and Doctoral students studying at Newcastle University who are interested in gaining experience of working within the Library. Applications usually open around October/November and close in early December.

Placement Years

If you’re an undergraduate student looking for a paid placement year, it’s possible to undertake this on campus. The Careers Service offers a marketing placement each year and Newcastle University Business School, Sustainability Team, IT Service, and Students' Union have previously offered placements.

Opportunities on campus are often advertised via MyCareer - search using 'Newcastle University' in the Organisation search field. 

You can also find student jobs advertised on School notice boards or on the University's main vacancies portal.

Before starting any work for the University, you will need to register as a casual worker. Information is available on the Working on Campus webpages.
