Our Programmes

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) for teachers and leaders

NUELC, as a member of NETSP, was a founding partner of The School-Led Network (SLN), which was appointed as a National Provider of the new suite of NPQs in March 2021 and encompassed Harris Federation, NETSP, Newcastle University, Outwood Institute of Education and Star Institute. As of February 2023, our NPQ provision will be delivered with the same partners through the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT). Newcastle University is a founding partner of the Institute, as well as the assessment partner.

If you would like to become an assessor, please apply here.

If you would like to apply to be a participant in the next cohort of the NPQ programmes, you can apply here. See NIoT NPQ flyer here!

If you are a participant who has passed the assessment for the NPQ, you will be eligible for 20 credits which can be used towards a PGCert or MEd qualification. For further information, click here.

Early Career Framework for teachers

NUELC, as a member of NETSP, has been part of the writing and delivery of the UCL Early Career Framework (ECF) programme since the initial pilot in 2020, and is now proud to be delivering the ECF in partnership with the UCL Institute of Education.

Our programme for Early Career Teachers and their mentors is written by practitioners for practitioners in the region.

It is unique among the ECF programmes in following a practitioner inquiry model in the second year, allowing ECTs to focus on the areas of their practice they most want to develop, and preparing them for a lifetime of reflective practice.

See ECF flyer here!

Post-graduate Programmes (PGCert, Master’s, EdD)

Our Centre team leads on the leadership aspects of the academic programmes offered by the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences.

For more information see:

All programmes have two entry dates (September and January).

Our Bespoke Programmes

Our Centre is uniquely placed to build programmes that combine the relevant content/context with generic leadership and management skills. This is why we always do an 'initial needs assessment' with your organisation.

We can bring in specialists from across the University's knowledge base to deliver sector-specific training to complement the high quality training from our leadership experts.

The Centre has worked with public, private and third sector organisations regionally, nationally and internationally including programmes delivered for partners in: China, Cyprus, Germany, Kazakhstan, India and Romania.

The programmes have had a variety of foci including: aspiring leadership programmes; courses for school, college and university leadership teams (generic and subject-specific); international leadership and English language development programmes; working with international policy teams to explore leadership development pathways; and school-centred initial teacher education.
