Undergraduate Degrees

Our School warmly welcomes applications to our undergraduate degree programmes.

About our education degree

The BA Education is an applied social science degree. You'll have the opportunity to learn about educational systems and educational practices through the key disciplines of:

  • history
  • sociology
  • psychology
  • philosophy

This course is a great route into a Primary Teaching PGCE. It is a broad and diverse subject and our graduates also choose to work in a myriad of other areas, such as:

  • international development
  • informal learning contexts
  • educational research

About our speech and language therapy degrees

For those of you who have chosen speech and language therapy as your future career, we offer a choice of degree pathways. On graduation, both degrees enable you to:

  • apply to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • be eligible to join the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)

For the first two years, you follow the same pathway, establishing and developing your core knowledge in:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • psychology
  • linguistics
  • phonetics
  • speech and language pathology

At the same time you'll put that knowledge into practice in your clinical observations and placements.

The final year of the BSc provides more clinical and professional content. The final year of the master's degree includes additional leadership and research content alongside clinical practice.

Meet us

Visit us on one of our Undergraduate Open Days to find out more. Open Days are a chance for you to explore the Newcastle University campus, talk to the admissions team and visit the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences.

If you apply to one of our degrees and we make you an offer, we’ll send you an invitation to attend a subject-specific Offer Holder Day. We believe that the best way for you to make a decision on if Newcastle is right for you is to come and meet our staff, hear about our teaching, and talk to current students.

Exceptional facilities and support

You'll benefit from an exceptional range of facilities and support, both within the programmes and our School and across the University.
