Microsoft Bookings

NEW: A vision for education and skills at Newcastle University: Education for Life 2030+

Supporting Academic Advising with Microsoft Bookings

As part of the new Academic Advising approach from September 2026, we will be recommending Microsoft Bookings as the preferred way to organise Academic Advising meetings.

Microsoft Bookings can help Academic Advisers to:

  • offer different types of meetings
  • set when students can book, based on availability
  • provide in-person or Teams appointments
  • automatically add Teams links to online meetings
  • reduce back-and-forth emails with confirmations and reminders
  • give students a clearer, more flexible booking experience

Using Bookings can also support a more consistent approach across programme teams, for example by using shared meeting formats, timings and templates. Academic Advisers can still organise meetings in other ways, such as through Outlook or Teams, if that works better for them. Microsoft Bookings is a recommended option to make scheduling simpler and more streamlined.

Important

Recording advising activity in My Progress remains a compulsory requirement. Academic Advisers must record whether students attended or did not attend meetings in My Progress, which will be the University’s official system of record from September 2026. Microsoft Bookings can help you organise meetings, but it does not replace My Progress. To find out more about Bookings, including available guidance, resources and training opportunities, visit the University’s Microsoft 365 Learning Pathways site.
