Health and the People
Perfect for GCSE revision, this workshop invites students to handle the works of some of the key figures in the history of medicine, from anatomy and surgery to nursing and public health.
About this workshop
This workshop is delivered jointly by Newcastle University Library and the Great North Museum: Hancock.
Students will have the opportunity to engage with original primary source material related to their studies, including the works of Andreas Vesalius, Ambrose Paré, William Harvey and Edward Jenner. They will also visit the Great North Museum: Hancock where they will explore the museum and take part in an object-handling session focused on ancient and medieval medicine.
Suitable for: GCSE History students who are studying the history of medicine. This might include AQA Health and the People, Edexcel Medicine in Britain, OCR The People's Health, or Eduqas Changes in Health and Medicine in Britain. Please note, this workshop is most effective as a revision tool for students who are already familiar with the topic content.
Duration: 1 day, 10am-2pm

Group size: Up to 32 students per workshop on campus. This workshop can also be adapted as a carousel for two groups of around 30 students per group, subject to availability.
