Advice and support to help you study well.

We know it can be stressful in the Library at certain times of the year, especially when exams are looming and assignment deadlines are creeping closer.  To help support you, the Library in partnership with Newcastle University Students Union (NUSU), Student Wellbeing and the Chaplaincy Team, run Study Well@NCL, a campaign advocating a responsible approach to studying and encouraging positive behaviours in study spaces.

Below you'll find useful advice, key resources and relaxing events to help you study well.

Study space

During the exam period library study spaces are at a premium so it's important to think in advance about the kind of study space that you need.

There are a variety of open and bookable study spaces located across our four library buildings, including designated silent, quiet and collaborative areas so you can choose a space to suit your needs. Individual bookable spaces are available in the Philip Robinson Library if you wish to book a space in advance. You can also check live study space availability across campus online or by using the University App, so that you can head straight for the nearest available study space and avoid wasting valuable time searching for a desk.

If you're struggling to find a place to work, talk to a member of staff.  During busy periods staff regularly check to see where seats are available and can clear unattended desks if vacant for over 30 minutes.

To help support others please be mindful of the space you’re using. If it’s a silent study space and you need to talk, use an alternative location.

If you’re being disturbed by noise in a silent study space you can text our Noise Alert Service 07981 484 764 and we will send someone to investigate.

Help keep our building environment clean for others to use by removing your rubbish, and observe the eating and drinking policy on our floors so that other people aren’t distracted.

We have a wealth of resources available to help support your studies. Our specialist staff from the Writing Development Centre, Liaison Team and Academic Skills Team are here to support you through a variety of drop-in and one-to-one sessions, Your Skills events, and online content available via the Academic Skills Kit.
