Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care

Staff Support

The Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team is committed to providing a flexible and accessible support service to University colleagues. We can provide a listening ear and talk you through a range of issues that you may be experiencing. These include issues such as:

  • Stress and workload worries
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Family worries
  • Identity, Gender and Sexuality
  • Loss or bereavement
  • Faith, Spirituality, or Beliefs
  • Values or ethics

We work closely with the other teams responsible for Colleague Health and Wellbeing and we will help you access any of the support services if they are better placed to help you address your concerns. You may also wish to access support from the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) or fromthe Just Ask volunteers.

Our Staff Support services include:

  • A flexible appointment schedule for colleagues with our Listening Ear service for an initial meeting online or in person
  • Our Walk & Talk sessions where you can join with colleagues and students for some mental wellbeing, conversation and exercise
  • Access to our Chaplains for exploration, encouragement and accompaniment of a faith or spirituality tradition
  • A range of faith and belief resources accessible to students and colleagues through the University Library service and Virtual Learning Environment

To access any of these services, contact chaplaincy@ncl.ac.uk

Many of the Student Faith Societies also welcome Colleagues as members. Societies should be contacted directly.

You can join our Faiths Forum email group or the Staff Christian Network to be kept informed of any activities or events of interest for colleagues within a Christian tradition.

Hate Incidents

If you are a Newcastle University colleague and have experienced Hate Crime or Sexual Violence, please inform the University using the Report and Support system where full details or anonymous reports can be made. The Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team work closely with the University’s Hate Crime and Sexual Violence prevention team to ensure support is made available.
