Access to Law resources this summer

27 June 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing Library services and supporting the evolving study needs and preferences of our students, we will be relocating key Law print collections to the Philip Robinson Library.

We know that the Philip Robinson Library is popular with Law students and colleagues, due to its mix of spaces and extended opening hours. This move will give you 24/7 term-time access to essential Law resources for the first time. We will also continue to invest in online Law materials, including e-textbooks, which can be access anytime, anywhere.

Summer closure of the Law Library

To enable us to make the necessary stock transfers, the Law Library will close for the summer at 17.00 on Friday 27 June, and reopen on Monday 15 September at 10.00.

While we relocate the print resources, we will be running a print request service. This will allow you to place a request for the book, journal or report you need, and the item will be brought to the Philip Robinson or Walton Library for you to collect.

How do I request a print item from the Law Library?

  1. Log in to Library Search and search for the item.
  2. Click the Request button and follow the on-screen instructions, selecting you preferred pick up location.
  3. Wait for an email to tell you your items are ready for collection.
  4. Visit the Philip Robinson or Walton Library to collect your item. If the item is loanable, you will be able to borrow it using the self-issue machines.

Where do I collect my requested item?

Items can be collected from the reservation shelves in your preferred Library. In the Philip Robinson Library these are located on Level 2, alongside the Short Loan Collection materials.

How do I access print journals and reports?

The retrieval service can be used for all print materials currently housed in the Law Library including reference materials. Log into Library Search to place your request as above.

In addition to the print materials, Newcastle University staff and students are able to access a wide range of legal research materials electronically, including key legal research databases such as Westlaw UK, Lexis+ UK and HeinOnline. You can explore and access the key resources from the Law Subject Guide.
