Being a Peer Mentor is one of the most rewarding activities that you will take up during your time at university! You have a significantly positive impact on your fellow students and help them start their journey at university.

Being a Peer Mentor

I decided to become a Peer Mentor because I did not want new students to feel lost when they had to tackle the tumult that is medical school. Shifting from school life to university life is not a simple task, and I felt that I had what it took to help students adjust.

As a part of my role, I was required to help students adjust to university life by sharing my own experiences on things such as studies, moving away from home, living on my own for the first time and learning how to have a balanced work-personal life. A mentee needs a Peer Mentor to be the one to the show the way when they feel lost starting their student journey.

Benefits of being a Peer Mentor

I feel that I have learned time management in the sense that I was able to help my while taking care of my own work and studies. I have also developed a stronger caring attitude towards my juniors.

When I won Peer Mentor of the Year, I was shocked and felt quite happy knowing that I managed to have a sizeable impact on my mentees and their university experience.
