With Brazil

Transnational Education (TNE) conference: opportunities and challenges in Brazil.

Project aims

The project aims to:

  • strengthen collaboration between Newcastle University and the Brazilian partner university, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)
  • develop understanding and capacity for Transnational Education (TNE) in Brazil through workshops, research, and stakeholder engagement

Project overview

This project builds on an established partnership between Newcastle University (NU) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Universidade Católica de Brasília (UCB) is also collaborating on this project.

The main goal of the project is to explore opportunities for Transnational Education (TNE) in Brazil and raise awareness of its potential among Brazilian higher education institutions and policymakers.

In Brazil, internationalisation has traditionally focused on student and staff mobility. This project seeks to improve understanding of TNE as an additional model for international collaboration and programme delivery.

Project workshops

The project organises a two-day series of workshops in Brazil. These workshops bring together policymakers, university leaders, and international education stakeholders. They address themes such as:

  • internationalising the curriculum
  • improving student learning experiences
  • developing intercultural competencies
  • enhancing education quality through TNE

Alongside these activities, the partners conduct research on the Brazilian TNE landscape. This will lead to academic publications and lay the groundwork for future collaborative research funding and long-term partnerships in transnational education.
