With Turkey
Joint postgraduate programme development between Turkey and the UK: removing barriers and sharing good practice.
Project aims
This project aims to build a strong partnership between Newcastle University and TED University to create a joint postgraduate TESOL programme that:
- expands transnational education opportunities
- enriches learning for both home and international students
Project overview
The project laid a strong foundation for a potential transnational education (TNE) partnership between Newcastle University and TED University, focused on developing a joint MRes TESOL programme.
First phase
Its first phase involved:
- feasibility research, including a review of existing UK-Turkey TNE provision
- consultation with academic and professional staff
- analysis of regulatory frameworks
- market research on student demand, fees, and visa requirements
This created a solid evidence base for assessing opportunities and risks.
Second and final phase
The second phase focused on programme development through reciprocal visits and close collaboration between both institutions.
This led to:
- draft curriculum plans
- discussions on credit transfer and student mobility
- planning for student support and programme approval
In the final phase, the project was widely disseminated through an International TNE conference, conference presentations, social media, and briefing materials. Overall, it strengthened institutional relationships, improved readiness for future TNE activity, and created a clear platform for future collaboration once negotiations resume.
