Inter Library Loans service

The Inter- Library Loans (ILL) service allows staff and students of Newcastle University to obtain material not held by the Library. External users should use the British Library’s On Demand Service or approach their local public library.

Most Inter-Library Loan requests are free of charge, however we do charge for some items supplied by libraries abroad.

Before asking for an Inter Library Loan:

  • Please check Library Search to confirm the item is not available in the Library.
  • For book requests, please check British Library catalogue for full bibliographical details and include the British Library Document Supply Service (BLDSS) shelf-mark where possible
  • For multi-volume works, please complete one request per volume
  • For journal articles, please supply journal title, year, volume, part, page numbers, article author and title, and ISSN
  • You can find the ISSN on Jisc Library Hub Discover
  • For UK and international theses requests, go to Finding and obtaining UK theses and dissertations

Due to the ongoing effect of Covid-19 some libraries in the UK and abroad may not be supplying loanable requests, as full services are not yet operational.
