Mr Allison is an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and Speciality Registrar in Neurosurgery based in the North East of England. His background is in the basic medical sciences, followed by NIHR-funded NHS clinical research appointments, before commencing his medical and neurosurgical training, both within the Northern region. Mr Allison completed his MClinRes with Distinction (Newcastle, 2020), within which he led an international investigation into the surgical management and molecular characteristics of incidental low-grade gliomas, and how their histomolecular profile and management differed from their symptomatic counterparts.
Mr Allison is the North East's first integrated academic neurosurgical trainee, which affords dedicated research time alongside his neurosurgical residency.
Mr Allison's current research interests lie within functional neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and the development of clinical trials to bridge the gap between the basic sciences and clinical practice, ultimately improving the survival, functional outcomes, and quality of life for patients living with brain tumours. He acts as Principal Investigator (PI) on the HFO-Glio study, a prospective pilot study utilising intra-operative electrocorticography to detect novel electrophysiological biomarkers to guide glioma resection and ultimately improve the chances of tumour-related seizure freedom. He also has a keen interest in investigating outcomes in neurosurgical trauma and medical education within the neurosciences.
Mr Allison is happy to be contacted by e-mail regarding proposals for collaborative research or, similarly, requests for talks or other educational activities.
