Research

Our primary aims are to make fundamental scientific discoveries and apply these to improve health and health care.

A powerful and measurable impact

We encourage collaborative working between scientists and clinicians across disciplines and specialities.

We pursue interdisciplinary research programmes in focused clinical environments. Cutting-edge basic science and public and applied health sciences help to underpin this.

Our research has a powerful and measurable impact on patients’ lives and the wider society.

We have teams in three interactive research institutes with 21 cross-cutting research themes. They provide research environments supporting collaborative research across the University and wider society.

We speed up our research through strong relationships with our regional NHS Trust partners and industry.

Centres of Research Excellence

Our Faculty leads on a number of Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs). Enabling our existing areas of excellence to grow in both resource and people. The NUCoREs provide a focus to bring together groups from across our University and beyond.
