Our Institute leads eight of the Faculty of Medical Sciences research themes. These are the areas with the strongest clinical and translational components. Basic science themes are led by the Biosciences Institute. Themes with a focus on public health are led by the Population Health Science Institute.

Centres of Research Excellence
Newcastle University has created Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs). These unite research across the University and beyond to support collaborative research across different sectors. Our Institute hosts and provides strategic connectivity for two of these centres.
