Background
I am a Honorary Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Senior Clinical Fellow. My research interests include machine perfusion and organ utilisation. I attended Newcastle University Medical School and undertook my early surgical training in the north east. My research investigates the potential of ex vivo normothermic perfusion (EVNP) as a delivery platform for novel therapies such as stem cells which can help revive and restore quality to marginal kidneys prior to transplantation. Recently my research was awarded the British Transplant Society’s Medawar Medal and the European Society of Organ Transplantation Leonardo Da Vinci Award for Research and Innovation. Clinically, I am the lead for kidney transplantation and research in the Freeman Hospital's Assessment and Reconditioning Centre (NOAH).
