I’m a cognitive scientist and neuroscientist working as a Research Associate (postdoctoral researcher) in neurotechnology and neural engineering at Newcastle University. My research focuses on developing brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) and adaptive neurotechnologies aimed at rehabilitation and diagnostics in severe neurological conditions, particularly disorders of consciousness. I specialize in integrating computational neuroscience, machine learning, and electrophysiological methods to decode brain states and inform targeted neural interventions. My broader goal is to build intelligent systems that can interact with the brain in meaningful ways aiming to advance our understanding of conscious processing and the clinical tools available to support those with impaired brain function.
I’m currently contributing to the scalable neural interfaces within the ARIA project, focused on "Precision 4D Control of Cortical Circuit Function", where my main focus is on implementing a system capable of targeting specific neuronal subpopulations and integrating them into a closed-loop framework for precise, adaptive stimulation. Building on my background in consciousness research, I aim to apply these technologies to modulate brain dynamics associated with awareness and behavioural responsiveness. This involves using custom 4D (multipolar, time- and space-variant) stimulation strategies to achieve spatially and cell-type specific control of cortical circuits. The ultimate objective is to create real-time, responsive neurotechnologies that support functional recovery in patients with neurological disorders.
