Roles and responsibilities

I joined the Welfare and Counselling Services here at Newcastle University in 2011 and assess and work 1:1 as a Counsellor with students who come for help with a diverse variety of presenting issues. I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs and goals.

I work as a mediator to help University members who are in conflict resolve their problems collaboratively and facilitate a psychoeducational, experiential group called 'Butterflies and Knots, How to Cope with Anxiety (B&K)'. This is a well established group and runs, where possible each term. It incorporates third wave CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and other, integrative approaches to help students understand and better manage their stress and anxiety, as well as develop good, all-round life skills. I also run termly workshops to help students manage and overcome stress and anxiety; learn about and practice self-compassion and develop skills in assertiveness and effective communication.
