Library spaces and services after Law Library’s closure

25 May 2026

The Law Library will formally close as a Library space at 17.00 on Friday 29 May 2026. The space will be transformed into a new dedicated Law School study and social area, designed to better support the Law student community. The Library will continue to offer the services you expect focused in our three libraries – the Philip Robinson Library, the Walton Library, and the Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms as well as online.

Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with Law students and colleagues to shape a new Library service in preparation for this change. As part of this, key legal research resources - including the core print textbooks you need - are now conveniently available on Level 3 of the Philip Robinson Library

Over the next three months, we will relocate the remaining current print collections to the Philip Robinson Library and the Research Reserve. During this time, the silent study area in the former Law Library will be temporarily closed. Throughout the summer break, silent, quiet and collaborative study spaces will be available across our Library buildings, offering a range of different study spaces and opening hours. The visiting the Library webpages will help you choose a space that meets your needs.

If you need access to law print books or reports over the summer, simply check their location using Library Search. If an item has been moved to the Research Reserve or another Library store, log in to your account and you will be able to easily request it to be brought to the Philip Robinson Library. All students and staff can continue to access support from our friendly Customer Services Team in person, or online via Library Help. For subject-specialist help - such as OSCOLA referencing or planning a search for legal information for your research - you can also contact your Liaison Librarians via Library Help.
