COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and changes to our services - All library buildings are now closed. The Library service remains open online.

The Student Texts Collection (STC) is a collection of library materials in heavy demand or defined as essential course reading, usually recommended by academic staff. There are Student Text Collections on Level 2 in the Philip Robinson Library, and also in the Walton and Law Libraries.

These are popular items and can only be borrowed for a maximum of four hours (less if the item has been booked by another reader - Philip Robinson only) - always check your receipt for the due date and time. They cannot be renewed.

Overnight loans allowed:

  • Termtime Monday - Friday after 6pm
  • Termtime Saturday - Sunday after 4pm
  • If a book is due back on a weekday it will be at 9:30am.
  • If a book is due back on a weekend it will be at 10:30am.
  • Vacation times may vary

You may borrow a maximum of three items and book a maximum of two items.

Why book an item in the Student Texts Collection (Philip Robinson Library only)?

Booking an item allows you to reserve it for a particular time, then you can borrow it for four hours (or overnight, see above).

To book an item in the STC login to Library Search and follow the Request link next to the item you are looking for. For more detailed instructions go to Library Help.

Overdue charges

There is an immediate overdue charge of £1 plus £1 per hour or part hour after that (maximum £15).

Philip Robinson Library has a self-service unit in the STC so you can issue your own books (either STC or General loans).

Walton Library has a self-service unit in the STC room for the loan and return of STC items only.

Please remember to take the receipt from the machine which shows the date and time the book is due back. All STC books should be returned on the unit in the STC area (not on other self-issue/return units in the library).
