Splashdown Summer School

The Dove Marine Laboratory runs two week-long summer schools for 9 to 14-year-olds. Games, new friends and art activities included. Join in the fun during summer.

If the course is cancelled due to any further Covid-19 restrictions then all participants who have paid the course fee will be automatically refunded.

Key stage 2

Location: Dove Marine Laboratory, Cullercoats, and field trips

Age group: 9-11 years

When: Monday 22nd July to Friday 26th July 2024. The course runs from 9:30am until 3:00pm each day.

Our long-running Key Stage 2 summer school is a great introduction to the marine environment.

In this week-long summer school, pupils will investigate the animals and plants that inhabit our oceans. They will be able to explore marine life at first-hand on local rocky shores, in the University's aquarium and by using microscopes.

Opportunities for art, fun, games and making new friends.

Each pupil will have the opportunity to carry out their own mini research project.

Key Stage 3

Location: Dove Marine Laboratory, Cullercoats, and field trips

Age group: 11-14 years

When: Monday 5th to Friday 9th August 2024. The course runs from 9:30am until 3:00pm each day.

We welcome back any student that has previously attended our Key Stage 2 courses, but students don't need any previous knowledge to join.

Our additional summer school is aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils.

Learn about science and the natural environment in a fun-packed week that gets you thinking about your future! Meet professional marine biologists and undertake your own investigation. Make new friends and be creative with art and exploration.
