Caspian O'Donnell

Caspian is a Research Assistant in Dairy Cattle Science with a multidisciplinary background spanning veterinary nursing, animal welfare, medical parasitology, entomology, and laboratory research. His experience encompasses veterinary nursing, laboratory animal medicine, wildlife conservation, and livestock research, providing a broad understanding of animal health across both clinical and research settings.
Having recently completed an MSc in Medical Parasitology and Entomology, he developed expertise in vector-borne diseases, molecular diagnostics, and disease ecology. His research experience includes investigating Culicoides biting midges at The Pirbright Institute and undertaking conservation and vector surveillance research in Cusuco National Park, Honduras Operation Wallacea. In Honduras, he also taught students in tropical field ecology and research methods.
Alongside his current research role, he works as a Rehoming & Welfare Assistant with Cats Protection, reflecting a longstanding commitment to animal welfare. He is also the founder of The Ribrary, an evidence-based resource dedicated to improving pet rat health and welfare through accessible scientific communication. The platform combines community-contributed medical case information with research-informed articles that translate complex topics in rodent health into practical, accessible guidance for owners and veterinary professionals.
Caspian's research interests are centred on One Health approaches, with a particular focus on the intersection of animal health, welfare, infectious diseases, and environmental change. He is passionate about producing research that not only advances scientific understanding but also improves animal welfare through evidence-based practice and effective public engagement.
