Staff Profile
Cate Ramshaw
Education Assistant
I joined Newcastle University in February 2026 as an Education Assistant, providing administrative and student support.
My role follows the student lifecycle, and I have responsibilities in a variety of areas:
- Student Administration
- Responding to student queries
- Directing students to the appropriate support services
- Teaching Support
- Assisting with maintaining Canvas portals
- Assessment and Examinations
- Tracking submission deadlines
- Receiving exam papers
- General administrative support
- Maintaining accurate records
- Preparing reports and documentation
Previously, I worked as a Compliance Administrator, ensuring that clients were operating within their government's guidelines. I was responsible for assisting with data protection queries, potential data breaches, delivering GDPR training, interpreting regulatory documents, and writing a plethora of documents, including but not limited to, sanction reviews, standard operating procedures and process documents.
Before moving into Compliance, I studied at Newcastle University, where I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Education. My dissertation, "How Do Visual Aids Affect Knowledge Attainment in ESOL Students Aged 19+?", was awarded a First Class mark and reflected my interest in supporting effective learning and communication.
I gained a TEFL qualification while at university, which enabled me to teach English online to children in China. This experience developed my communication skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders. It also led me to work part-time as a supply teacher across schools in the North East, where I supported pupils with diverse learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
