Payment Methods
Please note, we are not yet accepting accommodation applications for 2024-25. We'll contact you when the portal opens.
Direct Debit
Most of our students choose Direct Debit as their method of payment for their accommodation fees. To set up a Direct Debit, you need to have a UK bank or building society. If you are an overseas student and do not have this, you can set up a UK bank or building society account when you arrive in the UK.
A Direct Debit is a simple, safe, and convenient banking service. It allows you to instruct your bank or building society to automatically pay your accommodation fees on the due date.
Once your Direct Debit is set up, you will get an email with the payment schedule and amounts due - this is known as an Advance Payment Notice. We will then collect your accommodation fees on the collection dates outlined in the notice. Any changes to the payment schedule will be communicated to you at least five working days in advance of the collection date.
To set up a Direct Debit to pay your accommodation fees:
- you must have a UK bank account
- complete a Direct Debit instruction in one of two easy ways; online, or with a Direct Debit Instruction Form (to be returned to Accommodation Services) the return address is as follows:

Open Banking is a commonly used payment solution that allows you to make an online real-time payment by bank transfer from your UK bank account.
You will be required to authenticate the payment in the same way as if you are processing a bank transfer using online banking on your mobile or computer e.g. a one-time passcode sent to you from your bank or facial recognition. Payments are processed through Trustly, an Open Banking provider.
If you would prefer to pay by bank transfer this option is also available to you by using Newcastle University's Payment Platform. Once you select pay by bank transfer you will receive the bank account details to make the payment to.
To make payment, visit Newcastle University's Payment Platform and in the ‘Paying Fees from’ drop down menu select United Kingdom. Enter the amount you wish to pay and select Trustly to pay by Open Banking or select to pay by bank transfer.
FOR EVERY PAYMENT YOU MAKE TO CONVERA YOU MUST ENSURE YOU GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RECEIVING A NEW QUOTE. THIS IS SO YOUR PAYMENT IS IDENTIFIED AND ALLOCATED TO YOUR ACCOMMODATION FEE ACCOUNT
The University has worked hard to develop good relationships with providers who can offer the most favourable payment methods and the most choice. In addition, we know that these platforms are safe and secure which is something our students have said was important to them. Newcastle University uses the same platforms as many UK Universities and offers a choice in provider with Flywire and Convera. Please take time to compare the rates with both providers before you make your decision. Bank Transfer is often the most favourable rate. Flywire and Convera currently offer a price promise for payments by Bank Transfer https://www.flywire.com/best-price-guarantee https://students.convera.com/newcastle#!/faqs to give you confidence that you are getting a competitive price.
Unfortunately, if you pay using an overseas card you are not able to make payments in GBP using these cards. We suggest that before contacting your bank and loading overseas cards in GBP to make a payment for your fees, you look at the payment platforms and look to see if that option is offered.
We welcome payments via our partner Flywire and will not charge extra if you choose to pay in your home currency. Your payment will be allocated to your accommodation fee account when settled.
Pay via Flywire on our Online Payment Portal
