International undergraduate students are offered a place in accommodation for the full duration of your course. You may be offered a different room each year.
How to apply for accommodation
Applications for accommodation are made through the online portal. You'll need to register for this service before you can proceed with the application.
To register, you will need your surname, date of birth and applicant number. Your applicant number is different, depending on whether you're:
- an undergraduate applicant - your 10 digit UCAS number omitting the hyphens or your nine digit reference number from the University
- a non-UCAS applicant - your nine digit reference number from the University
- a postgraduate applicant - the first nine digits of your reference number from the University
Enter an email address but use an account you can access at all times, especially during the summer months.
Create a password that you will easily remember. This must be at least six characters long and include at least one number.
You'll receive an email to validate your account, once confirmed, the application will let you proceed to the next stage.
Go to the application homepage and log in using your applicant number and password. If you are an undergraduate student, note that this applicant number will be different to your UCAS number.
The 'Your Journey to Newcastle' hub page will display the personal details we hold about you.
You need to:
- update your home address details
- give an emergency contact
- check that the system is showing the correct academic year for your application
Select 'Create Application' to begin your application and select the relevant 'Application Type' specific to you; i.e. single, couple or family.
View the options and select your accommodation choices
Review the accommodation options available, making sure you look at the facilities, images and more information sections about each residence before making your choices. Select the room types and residences that meet your requirements. Single students must select three different options.
When allocating you a room, we will work our way through your choices in order of preference. Some room types are in high demand but low quantity, and these rooms will then be split between male and female gender to ensure a balanced community. To maximise your options, make sure you include residences with a large number of room types.
Prioritise your alternative options
If your choices are unavailable, we need to know what you would prefer to be offered instead. You must rank the options in order of what you would prefer.
Provide additional information
Complete the additional information section which, depending on your application type, may include:
- expected arrival and departure dates
- sharing preferences
- medical/disability information
- any special requests you may have
Review your choices
When you have completed all sections, you can review your choices in the 'Summary' page. When you're happy with your application, select 'Confirm' and you will receive an email confirming your application has been received.
You can log back in and review your application at any time and you can make changes up to 30 June.
