Staff Profile

After a successful career in broadcast journalism working in national TV news then as News Editor at the BBC in Newcastle, I moved to the University’s press office initially focussing on Medical Sciences.

Now, as Head of Media Relations, I work with a team of 5 Media Relations Managers, raising the profile of University work and research in the media in areas ranging from Art to zygotes.

My background as a broadcast journalist is invaluable to the media package we in the press office are able to provide to academics in the University.  As well as advising on media strategy in controversial areas, I support proactive media work, offer media training and where appropriate create media releases and assist teams prepare for interviews.

As a Fellow of the University's Policy Academy, and now a trainer for it, I support academics in explaining their work to politicians and government agencies.
