System roles
NEW: A vision for education and skills at Newcastle University: Education for Life 2030+
My Progress supports a range of roles involved in supporting student success, each with access to information and functionality relevant to their responsibilities. Access is role-based and designed to ensure colleagues can carry out their duties while supporting a consistent approach to student support.
This page outlines the roles available in My Progress and once the system is live on Tuesday 8 September will explain the access, permissions and responsibilities associated with each role.
System roles
Student
Students use My Progress to reflect on their progress, record goals, review their skills and attributes, and engage with support offered through Academic Advising. The system supports students in taking an active role in their academic progress, personal development and future planning. Find out more about the guidance available to students on the Academic Skills Kit website.
Academic Adviser
Academic Advisers use My Progress to support conversations with students about their progress, development and goals. The system provides access to relevant student information, reflections, goals and engagement data, helping advisers provide personalised, structured and evidence-informed support.
Director of Academic Advising
Directors of Academic Advising use My Progress to support oversight of Academic Advising within their Academic Unit. The system provides visibility of advising activity, student engagement and adviser allocation, helping to inform evaluation and support consistent practice across the Unit.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing colleagues use My Progress to support students and facilitate coordinated support across the University. Access is tailored to the needs of the role and helps colleagues understand relevant student information, engage with students where appropriate, and work effectively with other support services.
Support to Study
The Support to Study role allows colleagues to use My Progress to record and manage Level 2 Support to Study meetings with students across their School.
PS Admin
This role is for Professional Services colleagues who support their School’s administration of the system.
Role access request
If additional or alternative role access is required within My Progress, a request can be submitted for review through the NU IT Service Desk.
