Professional careers events

Students also have the opportunity to engage with our industrial partners through professional careers events. These provide a first-hand insight into the sector, and the chance to build networks.

Our students benefit from our annual ACCESS careers event, providing an opportunity for students to interact with industry and explore the latest innovations.

Experts from our industrial partners give our Stage 2 Civil Engineering students an insight into the sector, giving you opportunities to advance your career prospects through placements and graduate jobs.

Award winning careers service

Our careers service has a wide range of tools and support available to students. These will provide all the knowledge and experience you need for a successful job search.  Some of the services available include:

  • Access to MyCareer: an online portal which can help you book careers appointments, sign up for events, and search for graduate jobs, work experience and part-time employment.
  • Feedback on your CV: the Careers Service can help you write a winning CV. Get feedback from our CV advisers and access our new online CV checker, CareerSet.
  • Find jobs: whether you’re seeking a graduate or part-time job, use our vacancy search to find the right role for you.
  • Gain work experience: find invaluable work experience in the form of paid internships (on or off campus), placement years, work shadowing and insight days.
  • Practise interviews: practise your interview skills, using our video interview platforms, Shortlist.Me and Graduates First.

Pathway to professional chartership

All our degrees in Civil Engineering are professionally accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), which is made up of four professional bodies:

  • Institution of Civil Engineers
  • Institution of Structural Engineers
  • Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation
  • Institute of Highway Engineers

Accreditation is your assurance that the degree programme you’re studying meets the standards set by the engineering profession.

A Chartered Engineer (CEng) is one of the most recognised international engineering qualifications.

  • our Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees are a direct route to becoming chartered. You don’t need to study any further qualifications to work toward chartered status
  • our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees can also lead to Chartered Engineer status. However, you’ll need to complete further study, such as an approved Master's degree
