Description: The project aims to take forward the prototype machine, developed at Newcastle University, and tune/adapt for coating ceramic- and metallic-based prostheses/implants which are produced by Zimmer-Biomet. The nature of this collaboration with the company will support the viability assessment and scale-up of the proposed technology. The project builds upon the recent provisional filed patent application (1915463.2; Inventors: Drs Ferreira Duarte and Gentile) which relates to thin film fabrication method and apparatus via layer-by-layer assembly.
