Project description

Transport investment appraisal plays an important role in decision-making and prioritising.

It is important to consider the impacts a new transport investment can have on the economy, environment, and society. We need to consider these impacts without omitting any sector, as they all work together to achieve sustainability.

Africa is a region still under development. But development is at a fast rate, and it still lacks enough research and information about transport appraisal. A structured, coherent and efficient transport appraisal framework will help the transport sector contribute more to the economy. The framework should also improve societal values and reduce negative impacts on the environment. It should help decision makers prioritise and compare schemes.
Nigeria has no national appraisal guidance for transport investments. No research has been conducted about developing one. Thus, there is a gap that this research will fill. We will address the question:

  • “Can a new transport appraisal framework with new impacts be developed for Nigeria?”
