Project description

The ocean tide loading (OTL) displacement is computed from forward modelling. It is based on International Earth Rotation and Reference System Service (IERS). We can use it for correcting space geodetic observation, eg GNSS, VLBI, SLR. But the predicted OTL displacement at regions with low quality ocean tide models and/or Earth's Green's function may be erroneous by up to several millimetres.

We are processing GPS and GLONASS observations in the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) mode to extract OTL displacement for global as well as local networks. By adding GLONASS data, we expect a more robust estimation for M2, N2 and O1 tidal displacement constituents. Furthermore, GLONASS can help overcome GPS problems to detect K2 and K1 tidal displacement signals.

We will compare the GNSS-derived OTL displacement with the forward modelling values. This will allow us to assess the accuracy of the ocean tide models as well as Earth's Green's functions.
