Project title

Novel algorithms for OFDM with application to visible light communication (VLC)

Supervisors

Project description

The research will investigate and demonstrate a high data rate visual light communication (VLC) system. The system will use truncated orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (T-OFDM).

Our objectives

  1. We will carry out a comprehensive literature review on VLC and T-OFDM.
  2. We will develop an optimisation tool to analyse the design structure of T-OFDM in VLC. This will lead to a new VLC system.
  3. We will propose novel modulation and equalisation schemes to enhance the bandwidth of OLED- and LED-based VLC beyond 100 Mbps.
  4. We will carry out a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the proposed system. We will compare it with simulated data.
  5. Finally, we will implement the full system. We will compare the results with predicted and simulated data.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Microelectronic and Communication Engineering from University of Northumbria
