Project title

The role of naked mole rat cell membranes in resistance against ageing and neurodegenerative disease

Supervisors

Project description

The naked mole rat is very long-lived. A rodent of its size should have an expected life span of around 6 years, whereas it can live beyond 30 years.

The project hypothesises that its cell membrane is key to this resistance to ageing and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

We will characterise and quantify this with a mixture of experimental and computational research. Our main focus will be on the characterisation and properties of lipid bilayers which model the cell membrane.
