Project title

Public recharging for Electric Vehicles - The business model challenge

Supervisors

Project description

We are investigating how to increase public Electric Vehicle (EV) recharging provision at the early market stage. At this stage, financial returns are poor.

We need mass adoption of EV to reach the UK’s carbon emission reduction target. But the scarcity of public recharging infrastructure is a major barrier for uptake. We don’t have enough longitudinal public recharging data to make informed infrastructure investment and policy decisions. This research captures and analyses recharging data over eight years to address this gap.

We are also investigating the relationship between EV sales and public recharging.

There are many stakeholders in the recharging infrastructure, for many different reasons. This makes it a complicated marketplace. It often has conflicting objectives and an unclear financial business case. We will carry out diverse stakeholder analysis and qualitative research. We will explore broader non-financial measures to justify public recharging provision. We will investigate stakeholders’ perceptions of recharging infrastructure value.
