Project description

There have been extensive studies into traffic monitoring. But none of the identified traffic monitoring systems can provide comprehensive, simultaneous traffic information. This information includes vehicle detection and classification as well as speed and acceleration.

This PhD project will fill this research gap. I will develop a real-time monitoring solution to provide accurate road traffic information. This will inform Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Currently, we use deep learning strategy to detect vehicles on the road from lidar. We will conduct modelling to measure the sizes of the vehicles as well as getting accurate speeds in tracking.

We will use videos together with lidar to achieve better performance in both detection and tracking stages.
